Relevance of Irrelevant

Fill here, fill there. Input here, input there. Just because that organization or form needs that data, doesn’t mean you should never wonder how it will be used or thus they really need this much of information from you. There are a lot of instances where a certain form or data gathering method get so much data in a way that it is not relevant already or it is not really necessary for the purpose they mention. Speaking of which, you should be very careful in giving your data since they might say that it will be used for this but in the other-side, it will be used in other way without your knowledge. In other words, it could be their true purpose or just a filler words that cover up their true goal.

Back to the point earlier, when giving your information, always have a “Why” in your mind. “Why are they asking this?” This question may become your guard from excessive collection of data. Just like what a legal website or platform highlights especially in their license agreement that, mostly and in most cases, they will never ask you for your password, from any of your other account or even your account of their website simply because IT IS IRRELIVANT and they don’t need it. My point is, it is not just happened in passwords, it is everywhere, you just didn’t noticed it or you are not aware that it is already excessive collection of data. Always be careful in giving your data, always know their goal and thus the information they ask is in-line with this goal, and if possible seek for opinions especially experts in that the same field.
